About Us

Chipakata Children’s Academy is a school, orphanage and community facility situated in Chipakata Village, Chongwe District, Zambia.  The site is comprised of more than 60 hectares (200+ acres) of land, which will allow ample space to support all necessary structures, as well as to allow for farming and other agricultural activities on the site. Local farming methods will be used to help generate both food and income to help support the operation of the facility year after year.  And as a result, jobs will also be created within the local community. The community members are genuinely excited about this project and the opportunity for their children to be educated, and they have pledged their participation in the project.

Chongwe District is located in Lusaka Province of Zambia and is one of the four districts in the Province. The others are: Luangwa, Lusaka and Kafue Districts.  It covers a total surface area of approximately 10 500 Square Kilometers. Chongwe district is located at 45 kilometers east of Lusaka City.

The current district population is estimated at 191, 039. The population is sparsely populated across the district, with higher concentrations at district center and in farming areas. While the growth and fertility rates are high, the population, especially the productive age group, is severely threatened with HIV / AIDS.  In recent years hunger due to failure of crops has exerted its toll on the productivity of the population.

To the larger extent economic activities in Chongwe district are closely linked to agriculture relying rain-fed crops. Persistent adverse weather conditions over years and animal diseases have had a double blow for district economic activities.

Agriculture is the main economic activity of the district including crop, horticultural and livestock production. Over 75 percent of household incomes in the district are derived from agriculture related venture, either as own production or sale of agriculture produce and by- products.

Major crops include maize, cotton, groundnuts and sunflower. There are three major types of farming system, commercial farming, emergent farming and small-scale farming.
