Agriculture is a way of life in Chipakata Village and throughout Chongwe District, Zambia. In fact more than 75% of the household incomes in the district are derived from agriculture related ventures.
Our property encompasses more than 88.3 hectares (approximately 218 acres) of land, which allows for not only the school, housing and community/recreational components of the Chipakata Children's Academy, but also provides ample allocations of land for agriculture.
Using the expertise of our local partners who are successful farmers within the Lufunsa community themselves, Joyce and Henry Habeenzu (our Director of Agriculture) will develop and oversee the Academy's long term sustainability plan that will play a vital role in providing food and income to support long term success and sustainability. This will include crop production, horticultural production and livestock production, which will be used to serve as a practical learning tool for the children of the Academy, and will provide jobs to residents within the Chipakata community.
